SAFE-SOLV - Solvents and additives for displacing oil- and synthetic-based drilling fluid and solids

Soften, dissolve, and suspend hydrocarbon deposits that could interfere with completion operations or well production

SAFE-SOLV solvents and additives are used to displace or remove oil- or synthetic-based drilling fluid and solids while maintaining a high health, safety, and environment (HSE) profile. The additives in this family reduce filtration costs and formation damage while increasing well productivity.

  • SAFE-SOLV OM fast-acting hydrocarbon solvent additive combines nonaromatic hydrocarbon and natural terpene solvents and surfactants for rapid grease solvency with less contact time than solvent-only pickling agents.
  • SAFE-SOLV E hydrocarbon solvent additive is a blend of nonaromatic hydrocarbon and natural terpene solvents designed to optimize grease solvency without using hazardous chemicals. It is ideal for removing pipe dope, OBM or SBM residues, waxes, and asphaltenes as part of a full wash train or separately as part of a pipe pickling procedure before gravel-packing operations.
  • SAFE-SOLV 148 North Sea-approved cleaning solvent is a nonflammable, biodegradable, environmentally acceptable blend of solvents designed to remove pipe dope, paraffin wax, asphaltenes, and heavy crude oil deposits on tubular surfaces or wellbore.
  • SAFE-T-PICKLE high-flashpoint pipe dope solvent is a highly effective nonaromatic additive that contains no recognized carcinogens. It is effective in cleaning commonly used copper- and zinc-based compounds.

SAFE-VIS - Polymer fluid loss control additives

Minimize formation damage while optimizing rheology

The SAFE-VIS polymer fluid loss control additive family comprises high-molecular-weight hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) polymers and suspensions designed for use as viscosifiers in freshwater, seawater, or halide brines during displacement, completion, and workover operations.

All liquid SAFE-VIS additives are designed with a coating that retards hydration until the programmed time, temperature, or pH is met. This controls hydration for better uniformity and effectiveness.

Choose the formulation that suits your well or fluid

The additive family includes several variations formulated in special carriers to meet individual well requirements and local environmental regulations.

  • SAFE-VIS OGS oil- and grease-standards liquid polymer fluid loss control additive is formulated in a water-dispersible synthetic carrier to pass oil and grease, LC50, and static sheen tests required for use in the Gulf of Mexico. It is designed for single-salt calcium chloride (CaCl2) and calcium bromide (CaBr2) brines and all monovalent halide brines.
  • SAFE-VIS E liquid polymer fluid loss control additive is formulated in a purified mineral oil carrier and designed to viscosity single-salt calcium chloride (CaCl2) brines and all monovalent halide brines.
  • SAFE-VIS HDE high-density-brine liquid polymer fluid loss control additive is formulated in a water-soluble carrier for use in nearly all high-density divalent brines.

SAFE-SURF - Spacers for dispersing drilling fluid filtercake and leaving surfaces water-wet

Improve displacement efficiency and effectiveness with optimized spacers

SAFE-SURF spacers help remove drilling fluid and solids, disperse films, and leave surfaces water-wet for displacement to completion brine with minimal health, safety, and environment (HSE) impact.

Products in this line include

  • SAFE-SURF E nonionic surfactant and water-wetting agent spacer, which eliminates detrimental effects of calcium, magnesium, and barium ions found in most solution makeup waters and limits pH effects on cement, acid-sensitive formations, and tubulars
  • SAFE-SURF O II oil- and synthetic-based and solids well cleaning spacer, a blend of surfactants, solvents, and powerful water-wetting agents designed to displace oil- and synthetic-based mud (OBM or SBM) and solids and leave downhole surfaces water-wet with low environmental impact
  • SAFE-SURF W water-based fluid well cleaning spacer, a surfactant-based detergent formulated to remove water-based drilling fluid (WBM) and residue from casing, pipe, and surface equipment
  • SAFE-SURF EU casing cleaning agent, comprising surfactant lightly treated with solvent to remove drilling fluid residue and water-wet downhole surfaces and tubulars.

DEEPCLEAN - Single-stage spacer pill additive

Simplify well cleaning with just one powerful pill

One of the major drawbacks to displacing a synthetic- or oil-based drilling fluid to completion brine has traditionally been cleaning spacers. Conventional chemistry has dictated the use of several pills to create a wash train that cleans the wellbore of the invert OBM and SBM fluids and produces a water-wet state. DEEPCLEAN single-stage spacer pill additive is a highly effective, single-stage well displacement chemical. It combines the dissolving capacity of powerful hydrocarbon solvents with the water-wetting capability of optimized hydrophile-lipophile balance (HLB) surfactants. The result is a double-emulsion product that satisfies all the requirements of a multiple-stage displacement wash train—with just one additive.

Clean and water-wet surfaces to prepare for completion

The DEEPCLEAN additive efficiently combine powerful solvents, surfactants, and water-wetting agents to provide excellent surface cleaning. When used in wellbore-cleaning operations, its double emulsion thins, dissolves, and disperses oil and synthetic-based-mud residue. Afterward, it leaves all downhole tubulars and metal surfaces in a water-wet state.

Maximize stability in heavy brine across a wide temperature range for land and deepwater applications

Unlike other solvent- and surfactant-based displacement chemicals, the DEEPCLEAN additive maintains efficient performance when the wellbore pressure differential requires weighting in heavy brine. In addition, it is effective over a wide temperature range and is ideal for deepwater applications.
